Kangaroo Island’s own Ligurian honeybees are the last surviving lineage of genetically pure Ligurian honeybee colonies in the world. The island's bees have been secluded from mainland Australia since 1884, with the Ligurian honeybee’s distinct flavoured honey found to be hypoallergenic, have a high antioxidant value and proven ability to act as a natural antiseptic.
